Health Care Debate - 8/3/2007
Hi, I'm Patrick, and I have a problem: I'm one among millions of Americans uninsured. In fact,
if we all formed one country, we would rank among the top thirty most populated nations in the
world, just ahead of Spain and the Ukraine. Perhaps if we formed a state here politicians would
hear us more clearly, but we are all instead spread throughout the nation, nameless and unknown.
And money corrupts. Profits not only distort the care we get, the representation we get, but the
very information that we get and would give us the means by which we may make both better.
If we begin from the premise that nothing may be done, then we ensure that nothing will be done,
and that the millions of uninsured remain so. If, however, we challenge this political system now,
then we will have found the power to change this system of health, and the health of our democracy,
the health of our people will be better for it.
